Disappointed, not defeated. That’s how I’d best sum up my feelings this morning as I return from representing GMRA and all GM salaried retirees in New York at the bankruptcy hearing. As you know by now, our application for a benefits committee was denied. What you should also know is that the court spent four hours hearing arguments and deliberating on our application.
We were well represented by our attorneys, but the judge’s decision did not come our way. Last night our board met and agreed that GMRA must immediately move into an aggressive campaign of letter-writing, phone calls and personal visits to our elected officials, particularly those in states with high concentrations of salaried retirees, relentlessly pressuring for a political remedy to our most urgent concerns. You’ll be hearing from us over the weekend with a special request for immediate action.
