EMAIL ALERT May 19, 2010
If you are a registered claimant on the GM bankruptcy case docket (now Motors Liquidation Company) at http://www.motorsliquidationdocket.com/), this is to alert you that
- your personal information is on the claimant form online, and
- you may receive a call from someone attempting to profit from the claims.
Several GMRA members have reported being contacted by someone offering to buy their claims and/or potential proceeds at a discount, resulting in profits for the buyer. You should apply a high level of caution in talking with anyone attempting to have you sign a contract assigning any rights or proceeds to someone else. We don't know if this is illegal, but it certainly sounds like an attempt to take advantage of retirees who are unsure of the process and/or possibility of receiving proceeds from a claim. In the meantime, we are checking with legal counsel as well as Motors Liquidation Company. We will post relevant information regarding these contacts and information about the process for claimants as soon as it is available.
Note: The filing deadline for claims was November 30, 2009, and there is no extension available under any circumstances. |
