PRESIDENT'S CORNER
PREISDENT’S FINAL POSTING
JANUARY 5, 2015
As previously posted, the GMRA Board of Directors decided to discontinue General Motors Retirees Association, since the original purpose of GMRA was to protect GM salaried pensions and other benefits earned by General Motors retirees.
Since General Motors either provided a Lump Sum payment or a Prudential Annuity to GM salaried retirees, there is no reason for GMRA to continue to operate.
GMRA continued to operate to assist many GM salaried retires resolved problems with their conversion to a Prudential Annuity and work with General Motors to a fair conclusion.
According to GMRA’s By Laws and federal and state laws, GMRA paid all obligations, attorney’s fees for dissolving the organization. In addition, any additional GMRA funds will be distributed to qualified Charitable Organizations that are either a 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 tax exempt organization.
While GMRA is no longer a member of NRLN, National Retiree Legislative Network, GMRA supports all the work NRLN does to protect the future of retirees.
For GM retirees, living in Michigan, NRLN has established a grassroots organization of GM retirees. You can find more information at their web site at http://www.nrln.org/CHAPTERS/GMRC/gmrc.html
Thank you all for your support.
