PRESIDENT'S CORNER

General Motors salaried retirees’ information:

General Motors has posted a phone and e-mail director on the General Motors web site, www.GMRetiree.com, under the GM Benefits Section.

Prudential Annuity Information and Timetable:

  • Prudential mailed a post card, the first week of April, to all GM retirees that will receive a Prudential Annuity which contains a web site (www.prudential.com/RetirementGateway/GM) and a phone number (1-855-778-5005) for contacting Prudential.
  • Prudential will begin mailing Annuity Certificates, in booklet form, from April 10 through April 26. All the information (e.g. name, gender, date of birth and customer identification number (Prudential does not use social security numbers).
  • The booklet will contain from one to three annuity certificates. Pre-1985 retiree contributions may also contain annuity certificates from Aetna and Met Life. All of the certificates should be verified for accuracy. While there may be two or three certificates, there will only be a single check deposited in your account, as Prudential is the administrator.
  • Before viewing or after viewing the certificates, retirees may go to the Prudential web site for understanding the Annuity Certificate. The Annuity Certificate is a legal document and be difficult to understand without viewing the Prudential tutorial, on their web site.
  • Since the Prudential Annuity is a new legal document, it will be necessary for certificate recipients to complete a new tax withholding form for federal state and local taxes. This is a new legal document and previous filings with GM or Fidelity cannot be used for 2013, when Prudential started paying the annuity.
  • Remember, the Prudential Annuity is no longer a “GM Salaried Pension Benefit”. All communication for life changing events (e.g. spouse, beneficiary, tax withholding, change of address, etc.) should be done through Prudential. The REQUIRED TAX FORMS will be mailed May 4 – June 26 and must be returned (by mail, fax, telephone or e-mail) by September 1, 2013.

Jim Shepherd
President - GMRA

Salaried Retirement Dissolution or Divorce – GM Style

Don Rooker, a GM salaried retiree, has shared with GMRA leaders what we consider to be a well written, very insightful commentary that he titled “Salaried Retirement Dissolution or Divorce – GM Style.” Mr. Rooker has given the GMRA permission to post his observations in order to share them with GMRA members. Click here or on GMRA News in ARCHIVES to read Mr. Rooker’s text that most likely will resonate with many GM salaried retirees.
